Heather completed her PhD at the University of Melbourne in 2003. She attended the Internationale Frauenuniversität in Hanover in 2000. In 2009 she is a visiting fellow at the Centre for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities, Cambridge. She is also undertaking research in Berlin with the assistance of an Ernst Keller European Travelling Fellowship from the Australian Academy of the Humanities.

Research interests and areas of supervision
German literature and culture of the eighteenth century; gender studies; notions of race, gender and nation in German literature and culture; contemporary German film.
